I get a lot of questions about my hats and where I get the patterns for them. To be honest I usually just make them up as I go, which has left me with many requests to write up and sell patterns. But I don't feel right selling patterns when they are just a simple beanie pattern! So here goes, a free pattern for a cute Pixie Beanie with a crossbone/skull applique! If you don't crochet but love this hat you can purchase it from my etsy shop - My Sweet Potato 3!
Hat (size is for newborn if you are familiar with hats just add stitches after row 8 to increase the size):
Using Hook I: Chain 3, join with SlSt
Row 1 - Chain 2, 6 Hdc in loop, join (7 stitches including chain)
Row 2 - Chain 2, 1 Hdc in each stitch around, join (7)
Row 3 - Chain 2, 1 Hdc in same stitch, *1 Hdc in next st, 2 Hdc in next st* repeat around, join (10)
Row 4 - Chain 2, 1 Hdc in same stitch, *1 Hdc in next st, 2 Hdc in next st* repeat around, join (14)
Row 5 - Chain 2, 1 Hdc in same stitch, *1 Hdc in next st, 2 Hdc in next st* repeat around, join (21)

Skull & CrossBone Applique:
Using Hook H: Chain 3
Round 1 - 11 Dbl in 1st Chain, join with a SlSt (12)
Round 2 - Chain 2, 1 Hdc in same stitch, 1 Hdc in next st, Chain 2, Sl St in same stitch (this makes the lower part of the jaw), SlSt in the next 2 stitches *Chain 6, SlSt in 3rd Chain from hook, Chain 3, SlSt in 3rd Chain from hook, SlSt in 3 Chains back down to skull, SlSt in the same stitch where you began * (this makes a bone end), SlSt in the next 2 st and repeat a bone end*, SlSt in next 4 st and repeat a bone end*, SlSt in next 2 st and repeat a bone end*
Fasten off, make sure to leave enough yarn to sew applique onto hat.
Sew Applique to center of hat and attach a pom pom! I hope you enjoy this pattern and let me know if you find any part of it confusing or if you have any questions!
Great idea! Thanks so much for sharing :) I'm not sure I could make this hat but I bet my mom would like the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'll do it if Ryan will wear it.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute hat. I'm working on it now for our expected new grandbaby. I do have a question though....do I add extra rows for the black edge, and how many? Or do I just change color to black for a few of the rows you already have in the pattern? Thanks for the fun pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the fun pattern. I'm working on it now for our expected new grandson. I do have a question though--to add the black edging, do I add extra rows? Or do I just switch to black for some of the last rows you have in the pattern, like rows 11-14?
ReplyDeleteElaine,
ReplyDeleteI just added black on the last two rows, let me know if you have any other questions!I love to hear that you are making it for someone so special-congrats on the soon to be grandbaby! ~Christine
