Flower Bonnet & Booties

I recently found out a friend was having a little baby girl this fall. Of course I had to pick up the crochet hooks and make her something special.

I used a combination of a few patterns to come up with this adorable gift. The shell bonnet is one of my patterns that you can get on Etsy / Craftsy / Ravelry.

Then I needed to add a lovely flower. I wanted to make sure it was a flower that would lay nice a flat against the hat so it would look and feel nice. After searching on Pinterest, I found this lovely pattern for free from Articles of a Domestic Goddess. She has a list of Springtime Flower Assortment, these are all free patterns and I simply love this one (it is the first one listed in here post)!

Next up... I needed a perfect accessory to go along with the bonnet. Booties was the obvious answer. I wanted something simple to go along with the bonnet. Again, I turned to Pinterest and came across what I thought was the perfect pattern from Susie J Crochet, the Basic Baby booties

I did make a couple alterations from the pattern. For each bootie I made to soles (round 1-3), stitched them together to give the bootie a sole that was more shaped and a tad bit firmer. Then on round 9, instead of working a slip stitch in each stitch around, I worked a slip stitch and chain 1 and repeated in each stitch around. I think it adds just the right amount of ruffle for a girly touch.

I hope you like the set as much as the Mom did when she received it!
